Love Power Sacrifice
Photographed by John Angerson over a period 20 years, this book is a portrait of the Jesus Army, a charismatic Christian sect founded in 1969 in Northamptonshire. Believers are expected to renounce all their possessions, live in communes and share all earnings. Their motto and three basic tenets – Love, Power and Sacrifice – form the book's title. The design is intentionally minimal and frames the images in pure white from cover to cover, setting the religious context.
